welcome
Considering my position it does not seem like a good idea to go to in-depth with my viewpoints on some of my political philosophies. But, with that in mind, something needs to be said. For any further insight into how I think, please feel free to check out my blog.
the war
- Above all other things, I believe it is important to keep an open dialog about this war. If we start to fall into the pattern of division and schism ourselves, then the terrorists have already won.
- It is my belief that we should pull out of Iraq immediately.
- No solider died in vain, unless we as a people refuse to discuss our differences and accept compromise. The notion of "if you don't like it get out" is hurtful to me in this way. That is not the American way, and if this is what we're reduced to then we've lost anyway and should just give up.
- We created our own mess in the Middle East dating back to the WWI. Further antagonizing will only lead to further violence.
- My most important opinion, though not my main point, is that I really don't know what I'm talking about on this issue; I've never been to war and I've never been apart of our government. My opinions are simply that: opinions. While I do not think I am entitled to such opinions those soldiers at war have died for my right to express those opinions, and that is the most important thing. No country has ever asked its people to die for a greater cause.
global warming
- As much as I believe in gravity I believe global warming is real, and it is a problem.
- In order to combat our sins we must repent and sacrifice. That means no sport utility vehicles, no sport bikes, no NASCAR, and no other form of carbon dispensing entertainment or vanity vehicle. I'm sorry; I like Porsche’s too, but they don't serve any practical purpose and contribute to our possible demise.
- In the absence of any real major power alternative, the nuclear option must be considered to replace coal. Wind and hydro power is great where it can be accessed, but it is not a realistic option for our whole country at this time.
- Detroit, foreign car manufacturers, and big oil must all be forced to step up in the alternative fuels department. We have a responsibility to fix what we've done, and they have a responsibility to commit to that cause just the same as the government.
- Every trash delivery service must also provide recycling services. If only as easy transport, the option must always be there, but the option must also be an easy one to choose.
the corporate machine
It is my opinion that the larger utility corporations (Comcast, Verizon, etc.) take advantage of their size and influence on a daily basis, and this
contradicts the idea of fair competition and capitalism. These corporations need to be held accountable for the influence they have on the
general public's daily life.
- All user agreements must be easy to read, and easy to find on the utility's web site
- Where possible the user agreements must be written in plain English, and must be short and directly to the point.
- A standard must be established to limit basic user fees. These fees include ideas like early termination. If a consumer decides, or is forced, to cancel service they should not be penalized for it.
education
The majority of our economic, social, and cultural problems today arise from poor education. Many of the problems that persist would stop if people were
better education on the ways of credit, reform, and art.
- The problems that caused the Great Depression are almost the exact same problems that are causing our current recession. We should, and can, know better.
- Children should be taught how to think, not what to think.
- Art is an important form of expression and a great way to relieve stresses. The arts should be as well funded as any sport or other educational department in our public schools.
economy
Our current economic crisis has arisen from the same issues that plagued the Great Depression. To avoid this problem from happening again and again we need
to educate our children on what credit is, and that avarice will lead to an eventual downfall. "Radix malorum est cupiditas."
Besides education, we have a real problem with our money being fake. With no standard to base our wealth on, its all just a figment of our imagination.
This leads to many problems, but mainly that the Federal Reserve Bank holds our lives in their hands. Right now we should be facing another depression,
but since our money is fake anyway, the Fed. can easily adjust the money's value and thusly avoid our demise (and theirs). We take advantage
of many other poorer nations as a result of this. Value must be established somewhere, and it isn't fair that the value is established in China for our
benefit.
government
We seceded from England to get rid of an income tax. So why do we have a new one now? This is a real problem that we all over look simply because we see
no alternative. Our roads have to be paved after all, and how else will we pay for that? There are ways, but they are not as obvious as an income tax, and
the income tax allows big government to exercise its muscle over us among other things. I purpose an end to income taxes, and the end to many government
funded programs (like Welfare). There are alternatives out there, and I have one radical suggestion:
Lets tax vice. You need your income to live and this should not be taxed. You need a house to live and this should not be taxed. You need vitamins and fruits
and vegetables to live, these should not be taxed. Your water, power, utilities, and medications should not be taxed either. So what should be taxed? Trans
fats, tobacco, alcohol, excessive use of gasoline, TV's, gamming systems, and any other thing we want,
but do not need. Some of these taxes can be extreme--trans fats are not only not needed in large quantities, but they are actually detrimental to our health
and therefore I suggest we tax them to an excruciating level--and some other taxes can be light--TV is not something we need to live, but we need a release
from reality somewhere--but that which we do not need we should use to pay for public works that we do need. We should not pay for public works with our
(general) income.
