So I've been using Twitter seriously for about a week (a little more) and I must say I've been missing out! There is so much more to it than I thought. In the few days I've been using Twitter I've discovered a shit-ton of new software to try; I've found Blip.fm which is awesome! It's like Twitter meets Last.fm and it integrates with both of those! I'm using too many exclamation points! But seriously: Blip.fm and Twitter are both fantastic services and they should be checked out by everyone alive. Especially Blip.fm: I found it by a tweet from trent_reznor. I was immediately amazed that he was able to share a playlist he put together in the way it was being shared. Last.fm has a way that you can share playlists and save them etc., but it isn't as instant as this. You can make your setlist while talking with the world community instantly! Good stuff.
This week has proven to me again that social networking sites have about a 2 year shelf life. Myspace was all the rage in 2005. I mean that shit was cutting edge! EVERYONE had a Myspace page, and it was a great way to meet chicks (I met Courtney on Myspace...don't tell anyone). Myspace got boring (and creepy!) around the same time that Facebook went from being college students only to everyone included. Facebook suddenly became cutting edge. So much so that Myspace even started copying the application and sharing aspects of the site to keep pace. At first sight it would seem that the innovations brought by each site is what makes us all jump from one to the other, but that shit ain't the truth. I've discoverd the truth through my own loss of interest in Facebook and sudden love affair with Twitter: It is--as most things are--about the people you knew in high school.
You see Myspace got boring around the time when everyone and their fucking mother from High School showed up on Myspace. At that time I moved (as many did) to Facebook because it seemed new, fresh, and you weren't bogged down with cronies from 8 years ago! Here we are 2 years after the Myspace to Facebook migration and everyone from HS is on Facebook!...but hardly anyone is on Twitter. I seem to be right behind the first wave of people to migrate so I'm not sure if that puts me in the ranks of the pinoeers or the agitators? Even still Twitter is fresh and informative. Its a better way to connect with news agencies and people who actually make news (politicians, celebs, etc). So far I'm following sources like slashdot and CNN Breaking News as well as Demi Moore and Shaq. This is in some fashion a wave of the future and now that mediums like newspapers and television is starting to feel the pintch they should look at these models as inspirations for the next generation of journalism.
With all this in mind I think I'm going to make some changes to JasonAnton.com. The basic theme and backround choices will remain, but I've already deleted the option to find me on Facebook in favor of finding my Tweets. I've stopped updating my Facebook and soon I'm going to start removing media and everything else. I'll still use it for messaging but other than that its done. I'm going to take down all my pictures tonight and add them, instead, to Flickr and link it all through here on JasonAnton.com. The member section isn't really working out. There is so much to this site that nobody knows about! I mean this site is used to keep track of my Nanny's time, display old mp3's of my old bands, show my calendar, etc...and nobody sees half of it! The Nanny stuff will, of course, be only available to her via login but I think I'm going to start moving things out of the "members only" section. Other things that pertain to the dev. of Theta will remain by password only but thats about it. I'm also going to create a new section for stories. These'll be stories from my past and stories I'll make up. I think some of these will be "members only" and others will be for everyone. I'm probably going to start that whole thing off with my Mexico story...if you don't know me or that story you're in for a treat! Everyone loves that story. Anyway, stay tuned for that!
I've finished the LPN site (more or less). It still needs a lot of work but it's available for view and use. I've started working on a site for my father at http://tom.jasonanton.com/ which should be neat. It's all about the real estate! I've got nothing else to report for now, check me out on Twitter! |
